at the rear wheels thanks to two variable-vane turbos running at low pressure, this low-mileage Cayman S has been tuned for longevity but has plenty of power in reserve for anyone who dares to add more boost. The twin turbo kit was completed by IMA Motorwerke in 2011. Extensive research was conducted on the build and quality parts were used with virtually everything being U.S. made. Power isn’t the only focus of this build, with the IMS bearing having been replaced with an upgraded Vertex IMS bearing. Additionally, this build includes new OEM spark plugs/ignition coils, rear CV boot maintenance, GT3 suspension components, and H and R lowering springs making it into the mix to help make it a well-rounded and reliable performer. It has recently seen a whopping K in preventative maintenance, translating to what will likely be a dependable weekend companion for whoever purchases it.
IMA Motorwerke designed this build with low boost twin turbos, to avoid the headaches of a high boost setup. The 2x 63 Aerocharger Turbos build boost under 3000 RPM, and maintain 5 to 6 psi. Additionally, they possess a unique self-contained oil system (which differs from most turbos that rely on a flooded bearing system which rely upon the engine’s lubrication system). In summary, this twin turbo build emphasizes superior reliability and street usability than other Porsche Cayman turbo kits by being easier on the power plant resulting in greater engine reliability, providing a seamless boost, and providing more low end (low rev) torque which will result in quicker take off and faster sprint times. Anecdotally, I have daily driven this car ~2500 miles and have found it is very approachable to drive on the street.
